Are you a  homeowner who has been thinking about selling your home, looking to move up, or downsize, spring is the time to make that move. In real estate, the housing market starts to heat up around February and March. As inventory begins to increase, you’ll want to make sure your home stands out above the rest. Here are 5 ways you can prep your home for the spring market:

1. Declutter – Over time, we tend to accumulate a lot of stuff such as random knick-knacks, children’s toys, and an abundance of picture frames to name a few. It’s not just about tidying up and removing the little pieces, but it’s also about depersonalizing your space. You want the buyers to picture themselves living in the home and not you.

2. Finish unfinished projects – Have you started a project that’s not quite finished? Have you painted your cabinets but didn’t get to the hardware? Or have you put in new flooring, but the baseboards aren’t attached to the wall? Take the time to tie up those loose ends. That way when a buyer walks in, they aren’t overwhelmed things they need to fix. A move-in ready home can take the stress and guess work out of the home buying process.

3. Deep clean – A sparkling, squeaky-clean home goes a long way. Whether you take the time to do it yourself or you hire a professional to come in, cleaning out all the nooks and crannies will not only make your home look clean, but it will feel clean and refreshed.  There are many  specials this time of year for home cleaning companies.

4. Neutralize – We all have different style choices but a bright purple wall with polka dots may not be appealing to every person that walks through the door. Painting the walls a neutral color and going simple with your décor can help the buyer visualize the space’s potential.

5. Staging – Along the same lines of decluttering, you need to think about the way your home is decorated. You can hire a professional stager or organizer to come in and help you make your home look presentable, or if you’re looking to save some money, visit a few model homes to get some inspiration.
